Sudan tactician Mohamed Abdalla believes his team can draw confidence from their narrow defeat to AFCON contenders Ivory Coast.

The Desert Hawks, ranked a lowly 102nd by FIFA, were undone by Didier Drogba's 39th minute header at Nuevo Estadio de Malabo on Sunday.

Abdalla's men had chances to spring an upset, with Eltaib Mudather coming closest as he hit the woodwork against Africa's number one side.

Abdalla hopes to see a similar effort in Thursday's Group B encounter with Angola at the same venue.

"When you play a team like the Ivory Coast with numerous stars you can't make mistakes," said Abdalla.

"But after the goal and in the second half we shed our reserve and produced lots of chances.

"I think overall it's a positive sign for the next match."

Angola edged Burkina Faso 2-1 over the weekend, with Manucho netting a superb 68th minute winner for the Black Antelopes.
