"THE PAPU BUILDING SHOULD BE COMPLETED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AGREEMENT AND WITH INTERNATIONAL QUALITY" PS MICIT

The government has ordered the Pan African Post Union (PAPU) headquarters project to be completed in accordance with the agreed time frame for the construction of the project and with the quality of international standards.

The directive was issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications and Information Technology Dr. Jim Yonazi who visited the building under construction earlier this week to inspect the progress of the project being built in collaboration between PAPU and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).

Dr.  Yonazi was accompanied by the PAPU Secretary General Mr. Sifundo Chief Moyo and the Chairman of the Construction Committee Mr. Victor Nkya. Dr. Yonazi commended the Management of PAPU and TCRA for closely supervising the construction of the massive project being constructed by the  Government in collaboration with PAPU.

"I have seen good work being done, we don’t have much time left, and the Government cannot wait much longer, I am ordering preparations to inaugurate the building to begin now with enacting a committee to oversee the preparations to the inauguration of the building so that we can go along with the agreement and hand over the building as agreed and in international standard quality,"  Dr.   Yonazi said.

Dr.  Yonazi directed the TCRA-coordinated Construction Committee and PAPU to ensure that all those involved in the construction of the historic project that was promised by the 1st Phase Government under Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. He said their names should be kept for reference, including those of contractors, service providers, and individuals who participated in building the PAPU building.  He said a  special book should be prepared to bear the names of all those who participated in the success of the project.

The Secretary General of the Pan African Postal Union Mr. Sifundo Chief Moyo thanked Dr.  Yonazi for visiting and observing the implementation of the PAPU House building as well as the circumstances of the implementation of the massive ongoing project.

"Your visit today is timely, as we move towards completing the construction of this very important building for the Pan African Postal Union.  I thank the Government of Tanzania for closely monitoring the implementation of the building through the TCRA-led Building Committee.  I've seen some big changes recently as this project draws to a close” Mr. Moyo said.

He assured Dr.  Yonazi that through the library of the PAPU, all those who participated in the construction of the building will be remembered and placed in the PAPU archives of the library through publications.

The building is expected to be in use before the end of March 2023.   The Construction started on January 18, 2020.  The construction of the building is a promise made by the First Phase Government under Mwalimu Julius Nyerere in 1980. When the building is completed it will become the headquarters of the Pan African  Post Union whose offices are located in Arusha Tanzania since 1980.
